In addition, an 11-bed Level II PICU serves as a short-stay intermediate unit for selected critically ill patients who require intensive care observation, but few ongoing interventions, e.g., post-operative craniofacial repairs, tracheostomy decannulation, etc.
This highly trained team of nurses and clinical staff are key members of the team providing the highest quality care at this leading children's hospital. The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner will be a member of the team that provides direct patient care services under the supervision of the PICU Medical Director to patients 0-21 years of age.&amp;nbsp; Cardiac and intensive care experience are essential for this position.&amp;nbsp; There are 12 beds in the CICU and 16 beds in the PICU.&amp;nbsp; Daily rounds on a rotating schedule will include all patients in the PICU and/or PTCU, collaborating with the attending PICU physician, other attending physicians from referral services and the health care team to assess, diagnose, plan, set priorities and realistic outcomes, and evaluate the effectiveness and cost efficiency of patient care.

The PNP will order or perform the following procedures:&amp;nbsp; Perform physical exams, collect and document data, conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, order and schedule laboratory studies and professional consultations, prescribe appropriate interventions and medications and coordinate the care and discharge of patients.&amp;nbsp; Additional responsibilities may include intubation, conscious sedation per protocol, venipuncture and/or arterial puncture for blood sampling, line placement, administration of infusion therapy and other delegated medical tasks.
